Journey to 100 miles - GSER PART FOUR

It’s been just over a month since my last GSER blog, so time for another update.

It makes me nervous to say how well things have been going, but they have been going well!

The plan hasn’t changed too much, except that my overall volume has increased, with adding a Thursday River run & gradually stepping up the Sunday long run.

A typical week looks more like 80+ km’s, with around 2,000 meters of climbing & 8+ hours on feet.


Monday: Rest Day

Tuesday: Easy social trails with Running Buddies Southside

Wednesday: Hard trail hills, tempo & intervals with the Toohey Trail Runners

Thursday: Easy River run

Friday: Road tempo/social with Club KT

Saturday: Social river run or River City Runners

Sunday: Long hilly trails 30K+ from Mt Coot-Tha, Enoggera or Gold Creek.


I’ve also started to make some solid gear decisions, which look like this:

We’ll be heading up to Cairns for the inaugural Cairns to Port Douglas 120K ultra in early September, but before that I’ll be crewing the Run Vault Performance athletes at the True Grit 24 Hour Enduro OCR at Lower Portland NSW.

If you think Brisbane has been cold lately, I’m reliable informed that Dargle Farm at Lower Portland is a whole new world of misery!

So that’s where we’re at currently – still lots of work to do before the big dance in November.

We’ve got some long back-to-backs planned, as well as at least one all night 50km run to simulate one of the nights I’ll out during GSER.
