ASICS Blazeblast Review: One Shoe for Road, Gravel and Trail
If you already love the ASICS Novablast or the Superblast, this is the one you'll want when your run doesn't stay on the footpath. The Blazeblast is ASICS' road-to-trail hybrid — road-shoe comfort with enough grip underneath to keep going when the path turns to gravel.

What a hybrid actually means
Road, gravel, fire trail — whatever your heart desires, this shoe has it covered. That's the whole idea behind a hybrid: you shouldn't have to pick a surface before you leave the house, or own two pairs to run the same loop.
It's the shoe for the run that starts on the bike path, cuts through the park, and finishes on a gravel track without you ever thinking about what's under your feet.
The cushioning
Underfoot it runs FF BLAST MAX, the same foam family you'll know from the Novablast. It gives you a nice cushioned feel while still having that responsive energy — soft landings, but nothing sluggish about it.
There's also a trampoline pod in the forefoot, which is where the fun comes from. It gives you a lively toe-off that stops the shoe feeling like a plodder, even with a decent stack of foam under you.
Grip without the harshness
The ASICSGRIP outsole gives reliable traction on gravel and light trails while still feeling smooth on the road. That's the balance a lot of hybrids get wrong — too many lugs and the shoe clatters on pavement, too few and you're tiptoeing the moment it gets loose underfoot.
Up top, the engineered mesh upper is breathable and locks the foot in nicely, which matters more off-road where the ground isn't level.

Who it's for
It's a perfect addition to your rotation if you like mixing your surfaces. If every run you do is on sealed road, a straight road shoe will still serve you better — and if you're heading into proper technical, steep, rooty trail, you want a real trail shoe with deeper lugs. The Blazeblast lives in the middle, and that middle is where a lot of us actually run.
