Hoka Mafate 5
The Hoka Mafate 5 is Hoka's max cushion trail shoe for long days on rough ground. Where the Speedgoat is the nimble all rounder and the Mafate X is the carbon plated ultra racer, the Mafate 5 is the plush, protective workhorse built to soak up big kilometres on technical trail.
Underfoot is a dual density midsole with a responsive supercritical EVA layer sitting on a softer CMEVA base, so landings feel soft but the shoe still has some life late in a run. A TPU rocker plate inside the midsole, which Hoka calls Rocker Integrity Technology, holds the rocker shape for smooth transitions, while the broad base adds natural stability on uneven ground.
The warp knit mesh upper has an anti fray treatment, a dynamic vamp and a gaiter attachment point at the heel, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole with 5mm lugs bites into wet rock, loose gravel and steep climbs. Ideal for trail and ultra runners who want maximum cushioning and confident grip for long, technical efforts.
